very merry chunglund christmas

We have officially exorcised Christmas from the Chunglund household. Just need to get rid of the wreath on the door, but that will be easy enough. So to officially purge Christmas from our systems, I thought it would be good to do a Christmas recap blog post.

This year in particular, I have been bumming about not being close to family. It's not like I really want to be freezing my butt off in Minnesota, but sometimes Christmas just isn't Christmas unless you go to Auntie Lori's house and talk about how disgusting the souffle salad looks and probably tastes. Nevertheless, we managed to make it a very merry Christmas in spite of missing friends, family, and souffle salad.

Christmas Eve we opened up family presents before heading out for dinner.

"this is ... um ... interesting."
that's a direct quote.

"it's about time you bought me a damn bed."
that is what his face is saying.
I have two children under the age of 5 so I'm not entirely sure why I thought I would try to "class it up" this Christmas, but for some reason I had visions of prime rib at a nice restaurant in my head for Christmas Eve. While I was hoping for something a little less "Love Shack," we ended up at Joe's Crab Shack where Little Miss J again ate her weight in crab. After three years running, I guess this is really the Chunglund family tradition and I best get on board with the tie dye and the dancing. After dinner we saw the light show in Old Sacramento before heading home to nestle all snug in our beds.

this was the best we could do.
damn J2 and his eye rubbing.
Christmas morning I made Little Miss J wait until J2 woke up, before heading into the living room to see if Santa had come. I turned on the television for her, and when J2 woke up shortly thereafter, she told me that she wanted to wait to see her stocking until her program was over. Clearly, Santa is not a big deal at our house.

After presents at home, we headed over to the in-laws for lunch, more presents and some playtime at the park.

After a nap for J2, we finished out Christmas Day with a family walk (Carl Rove too) through the Fab 40s to look at lights - complete with hot cocoa (with a little Bailey's for the mama).

A pretty good Christmas, in spite of the lack of souffle salad.
